Biography
Dr. Nahiyan Al-Azad is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the World University of Bangladesh. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, where his research focused on the development of natural fiber–based composite materials for sustainable engineering applications. He also holds a Master’s degree in Construction Management from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, and a Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Sustainability. His academic journey reflects a strong interdisciplinary orientation that bridges mechanical engineering, materials science, and project management.
Before joining academia, Dr. Nahiyan gained extensive industry experience in project management for escalator and elevator installation projects, as well as in automotive service operations, specializing in air-conditioning systems and diesel engine performance optimization. This practical background enriches his teaching and research with a focus on real-world applications and sustainable engineering practices.
Dr. Nahiyan is deeply passionate about teaching and strives to create an engaging and supportive learning environment that encourages critical thinking and problem-solving among his students. His research interests encompass composite materials and natural fiber–reinforced structures, renewable and hybrid energy system optimization, sustainability assessment, and life cycle analysis. He is also actively engaged in exploring construction project management frameworks and construction law to enhance sustainability and efficiency within the built environment. His current research efforts are directed toward developing sustainable materials for structural applications, as well as advancing energy-efficient hybrid systems for island electrification.
Dr. Nahiyan has published several journal articles, co-authored books, and book chapters in his areas of expertise . His work continues to contribute to the advancement of sustainable technologies that integrate environmental responsibility with engineering innovation.
